Not sure if cheap necessarily means good!
I have some good solicitors who charge c. £450 + VAT plus disbursements so if you want to save £100, perhaps this is the answer. I know a firm that in the past has done them for £375+VAT but this was for bulk purchases.

This may be a little late for your needs, but it's worth asking your financial guys if they have bulk deals with a solicitor or even postal-serivce. These tend to be very cheap indeed: my last property (Nov. 2006), excluding disbursments, came to £410 + VAT: RMNJ postal service. I appreciate its higher than some, but much more cost effective than poping into any high street solicitor.

By "postal service" they mean that there is no physical contact / communication with you other than through the post / email. All papers are sent recorded etc... AT a local level this excludes the cost of attesting documents, but overall the cost is cheaper than high streets. Hope this helps.
By far, the cheapest is the bulk daels which £-brokers have with solicitors / conveyancers.... For future buys, that what I will be using.

I have a deal with a solicitor for £499 all inclusive (inc. VAT). This is for a standard remortgage. Usual terms apply for anything out of the ordinary. If anyone is interested, I can fax them the form. They are OK as solicitors go and very good if price is your main consideration.
