Hi people,

Have now exchanged and complete on the 7th. At last!!

Anyway, Assured Shorthold Tennancy Agreement Q? If I buy a copy from one of the various sources, will it be a valid document if I then type it out in word and use printed out copies for future tennants?

Has anybody done this and if so would you be kind enough to mail me a copy?

Time to start looking for the next dream property.

Cheers

Ara

Hi Ara,

Congratulations and best wishes on the buy!

The answer to your question is: yes. You can buy an AST from a reputable source, make appropriate changes to take into account any specific like contents, provision of any specific services etc. You can then re-write it in word as long as you make sure that the elements of law it contains are not changed. I would suggest that you do not breach any specific copyright and thus in your final version ensure that it is specific to you.

I recommend that you join NLA, which will give you access to free ASTs as well as lots of other documents you might need. You get an informative magazine called UK-Landlord as well as access to cheaper insurance. I would say it is worth it and of course the membership is tax deductible.

Good luck,

Regards, Malik
