General (main property discussion here) - House converted into 3 flats

Hi I've seen a house that has been converted into 3 flats - however this was done many years ago and there is no planning permission. The Local authority however have been accepting Council tax for years. What is the real legal position here.

Every mortgage company I've approached will not touch it - any ideas!!!

You need to sort out your mortgage broker. 3 flats in one building many companies will lend on this:

Have all three flats been occuppied for the last for years if so then there should not be a planning issue.

you might be able to get retrospective planning permission if the lenders are being difficult? Bob

Norwich and Peterborough will probably lend on this.

If Council Tax has been collected for 4 years then a Certificate of Lawful Use can be applied for in the same way as a Planning Application (and same cost). Providing evidence is there for the 4 years the council will have to issue you with the certificate.
