hi guys, any of you peeps manage your own props and control the heating ? the reason i ask is some of my sneaky tenants are plugging in electric heaters on top of the central heating i provide, what are the legal requirements ?? i provide heating from 5.30am to 9am then 5pm til 11pm weekdays when everyone is at work, and 7.30 til 12 midnight at week ends, the room temperatures are 21 degrees centigrade, am i being reasonable or a scrooge !?? regards steve

Why not install a coin/card electricity meter?

Steve,

Simon is right. Go for self payment.... I suggest cards, little or no temptation to get the old jimmy / claw-hammer on the coin meter...

Food for thought: What's a poor tenant to do for heat at 4pm if they come home early on poets day?

Regards, Malik

hi guys, already in the middle of fitting coin meters and dont worry they will be emptied every week on rent day ! i have informed my tenants that they will be getting rent reductions of a fiver per week so they can put their own heaters on as much as they want so the moral of this tale don t expect your tenants to be sensible with YOUR electricity regards steve

Don't tar all tenants with the same brush Steve!

Meters are the best plan though.

I take it that they aren't student lets?! You'd have the bloody heating on 24/7...

Then if you made them pay by meter, they would sit their in the cold with big jumpers on!
