The majority of people who are buying property in Bulgaria are looking for holiday/second homes often with a view to retirement in later years. The town of Pomorie (about 14 500 inhabitants) is situated on a narrow rocky peninsula, jutting out 3,5 km in the Black Sea. In the resort of Pomorie, the shore is low, sandy, with a fully open horizon. New developments may be purchased 'off plan' direct from the developer. For further details see: http://sunhomesbg.com.

Hi there,

Not sure if you saw an earlier thread with regards my personal experience with Bulgarian investments, but suffice to say, myself and my parents came to the conclusion that they weren't very professional in anything they did.

My parents and my brothers (on my behalf) in 2003 went to Bulgaria to suss out a few apartments in Varna and sunny beach etc. But both had actual problems viewing any apartments.

My brothers got abandoned in the agents car just outside Varna and no way of getting back...guys car ran out of petrol on the way to viewing some apartments!!! Then the agent subsequently tried to get 70Euros out of them for fuel....which would have fuelled a trip to England, as cheap as it is there.

My parents were emailing back and forth to an agent there and visited for a week and never saw 1 property.

Now this could have been a one or two off, but to happen to the same family on two seperate occasions was not funny.

We decided not bother. Maybe if we'd been luckier than that in the beginning we would have achieved the rise in prices since 2003, but then again, when that happens to you, you have other things on your mind least of all spending your hard earned cash on something there.

I've just seen this article about the future of these type of countries, along with Turkey, who are to "join the EU", since the "NO" vote in France and Holland.

As you are maybe thinking of venturing over there I thought I would just let you know my misfortune, but as I say, this could be a two off!!

Good luck anyway if you do go for it or have already done so.

Cheers

Simon
