Has anybody been on any of the courses advertised and which were any good...or bad for that matter?

jane,

get as much advice as you can here. many have very poor reputations. i have not been on one but have heard the horror stories, Many charge £4-5k just to tell you to buy, buy, buy and take out as many mortgages as possible.

if you are just starting out you need solid advice about how to make investments, be a landlord and maintain a portfolio.

do your research.

I have seen others ask this type of question and the ones that responded had nothing good to say. they actually said something about keeping the money to use as a deposit on a house.

My advice, ask ask ask, ask as many people questions relating to property. Read these forums for tips, buy a few books on the subject.

What area of property to you want to get into? Renovating, letting etc?

p.s I am no expert by the way

Jane,

These rip-off courses are not worth the mnoney - pure and simple. Only ever take advice from successful and experienced Landlords / Investors.

Jane,

I understand the sentiments of some of the previous posters on here and by enlarge they are correct. The 'create a million pound property portfolio within 12 months' boys leave a lot to be desired.

However not all courses are like this. There are a few of good eggs which can be worth their weight in gold.

As with anything - research will pay you dividends.

Jane, I meet and talk to alot of people in my business (property and mortgage brokering) and I have to agree with Russell.

Whilst certain courses may be expensive and little more than avenues to sell overpriced ..sorry I mean discounted off plan properties I have spoken to many people who have been on other courses and they are really moving there property business on. It may be cheaper to learn on your own but if you go to a decent course which teaches property investment fundamentals and what you learn you DO then it will get you moving quicker.
