I have a buyer for a flat which should be completing by the end of this month. In order to show him around initially I told my tenant I was 'refinancing' so she wouldn't be unsettled by a change of landlord. However, I need to gain access again for my buyer's surveyor. Do I tell the truth to my tenant or tell another 'half truth' to keep her sweet for my buyer. Of course I will write to her to introduce her to hew new landlord on completion. I'm worried about rocking the boat in case the deal doesn't proceed.
General (main property discussion here) - When to tell tenants you are selling

brenda, i think you have done exactly the right thing. i would never tell a tenant until the contracts have been exchanged! keep up the 'half truth' as it will create far less problems for both your tenant and you! tom |

Or you could tell them the full truth and that the new buyer is going to keep them on as tennants too - Meaning no change for them. They probaly may suspect something anyway ! FM |
