Can anybody help me with setting a rent for a self contained 1 bed furnished flat with lounge, seperate kitchen, bedroom, seperate bath and shower room in central Croydon. How much would housing benefit pay towards a property of this type per week? Many Thanks |

Hi Simon, i normally call the council myself, however have you checked the new system, any new DSS rent claims are now paid direct to the tenant and not the landlord. |

Thanks for that info Alex. i will call the council and ask what they pay for a 1 bed flat. I didnt know that Housing benefit will be paid to the tennant in future. That may cause me problems with late payments from tennants who have difficulty budgeting monthly allowances. Can the tennant not specify that the rent should be paid direct to me? |

No mate, that was the old system that the tenant signs the rent away to the landlord, All new claims as of now will be paid direct to the landlord. Check this with your local council. Its causing quite a stir as you well know your not going to get your rent. |
